HOW IT ALL STARTED...
In December 2006, we held our first Simon Salz Memorial
Concert, with Ira Sullivan, Duffy Jackson and friends entertaining a packed
house. Funds raised from this event allow us to offer scholarships to the 2007
camp. May 2, 2008 was our second Simon Salz Memorial Concert. It featured Mr.
Dick Hyman, best known as composer, arranger, conductor, and pianist for the
Woody Allen films "Zelig," "The Purple Rose of Cairo,"
"Broadway Danny Rose," "Stardust Memories," "Hannah
and Her Sisters," "Radio Days," "Bullets Over
Broadway," and more. He was joined by the new Dean of
the Frost School of Music - Mr. Shelly Berg. It was an unforgettable
evening! The third concert on July
15, 2009, featured world-famous Latin/Jazz flutist – Nestor Torres.
He was joined by jazz great Ira Sullivan and they were backed up by a stellar
Latin/Jazz Band. The concert
opened with the Honors Jazz Ensemble from the Young Musicians’ Camp. A sold-out hall and a wildly
enthusiastic audience made for an unforgettable evening.
